Head Alpine Performance Coach

Mount Buller Race Club (MBRC) was established in 1987 and has become one of Australia’s most successful Alpine and Snowboard race clubs producing many athletes who have competed on the World Cup and Olympic stage.  Rich in history, the club has grown significantly over the years, providing dedicated programs for young athletes at Mt Buller, Victoria, Australia.  With a membership base of approximately 200 athletes and an established brand amongst the Australian alpine ski and snowboard community, MBRC is looking to take the next step in its journey by creating a full-time, year-round, opportunity for a Head Alpine Coach. This is a newly created position for the club and is a key strategic hire.

Reporting to the Club General Manager (GM), the person will join the coaching leadership team and be instrumental in further developing and implementing a world-class, high-performance program for our FIS, under 16 and transitional under 14 performance athletes. 

The role has 3 areas of focus combining on and off snow responsibilities including, but not limited to:

  1. MBRC
  • Work closely with the leadership team which includes the Club GM, Head Development Coach and Head Snowboard Coach to deliver a world class performance program.
  • Have detailed knowledge of the MBRC strategic plan and work closely with the Club GM to deliver strategic outcomes for the club. 
  • Understand, reflect and drive the MBRC Mission, Vision and Values.
  • Design, manage and run MBRC races including scheduling of duties. Overseeing the MBRC team on race days including communicating with coaches and volunteers. 
  1. Athletes

  • Develop and manage the MBRC performance program for FIS, U16 and transitional U14 athletes.
  • Set FIS, U16 and transitional U14 athlete goals and objectives for Mt Buller and Northern Hemisphere training on and off snow. 
  • Identify and manage talented athletes via the Emerging Talent Program (ETP), Watch List and Skills Assessment. Manage the creation & development of Individual Performance Plans (IPPs) for club performance athletes
  • Knowledge and understanding of Snow Australia pathways for elite athletes and work with Snow Australia for elite athlete transition to Snow Australia.

  1. Coaches

  • Lead and manage coaching staff for FIS, U16 and relevant U14 groups.
  • Set coaching objectives and timetable for the Mt Buller season.
  • Mid and post season review of coaches of FIS, U16 and U14 identifying areas for program improvement.
  • Provide ongoing training and support to the coaches of FIS, U16 and transitional U14.

MBRC is committed to providing both on and off-snow programs for its athletes.  This role creates the opportunity to go beyond seasonal on-snow training and provides a platform to work with MBRC athletes year-round in both Australia and the Northern Hemisphere. 

This is a full time seasonal role for the Mt Buller season, and a part-time role out throughout the balance of the year. The successful applicant will be involved in the Northern Hemisphere training program for performance athletes, and will assist the club GM in developing a performance framework for the club.

Currently, this role would oversee a program on snow across the Mt Buller season, incorporating pre & post season add-on training opportunities beyond our current seasonal program (est 15 weeks Jun - Sep). A Part-time role would be developed for this role in consultation with the successful applicant, which will enable the design and management of IPPs for all performance athletes at the club.

About you

MBRC is seeking an energetic, experienced alpine performance coach with outstanding communication skills.  You will have a proven track record developing athletes, possess strong leadership skills and have experience in leading and mentoring coaches.  You will be excited at the prospect of making a real difference to the club and delivering high performance outcomes.  Prior experience working in a similar Alpine performance program is essential.
